Training and Coaching

In both the computer and genealogy fields, I’ve done many types of training over the past 40+ years:

  • Classroom training – this has been my primary “location” over the decades, mostly computer labs at various city, county, state, school district, and university locations.  What’s the most unusual location, you might ask?  Well, in 1997 I taught for 6 weeks up in the Arctic Circle for BP, at their Prudhoe Bay site, for a world-wide upgrade from Macintosh computer to a Windows 95 network.
  • Coaching – this method of working with individual users has been particularly helpful when someone has a specific need, custom project, or is unable to be successful in a classroom environment.
  • On-line platform – since March 2020, I have become a super supporter of Zoom training!  For adult computer users/learners, this allows each person to sit at their own desk and use their own computer, rather than travelling to a computer lab.  In Lane County, where I live, I often had students who came from the Coast to attend a class in Eugene, making for a very long day.  Now they can join in on Zoom from their own space.

My class training goal has always been that each person in my class will go away having learned something that will be helpful in their work, while feeling they have been able to ask their questions and receive answers.  I also hope they will come back to another class in the future!
